# What do clients see in a Flow?

Learn how your clients open a Flow, move from one step to the next, and what emails they receive along the way.

Clients move through a flow one step at a time, from a welcome screen to a final "You're all set" page. This article walks you through everything they see along the way, so you know exactly what your clients experience.

### Interactive walkthrough

## How clients access a flow

When you start a flow, the client and any other participants receive an email with a link to it. Clients who use your portal can also open the flow from the portal itself by clicking **Flow** in the sidebar.

### What the flow page looks like

Every client starts on the **welcome screen**. From there, they go through their steps in sequential order.

Once they're in, the page shows:

- **The current step**, with the title and description you set.

- **A progress bar**, for example "Step 2 of 5".

- **The full list of steps on the left**, showing what's already done, so the client always knows where they are.

- **A "Needs a review from our team" badge** on steps your team has to approve.

## Step types

Each step either asks the client for something or shares something with them.

### Completing a step

On each step, the client does what you asked: fills in the form, uploads documents, ticks the checklist items, or reads what you shared. Then they click **Continue**, or the custom button label you set on the step. The button stays greyed out until the step is complete. This prevents incomplete submissions.

### When a step needs your approval or is rejected

- If you require approval before the client can advance, the client sees "Needs a review from our team" badge and after clicking **Continue**, the flow shows in progress and “Waiting for other parties”.

- If you reject a step, your rejection message appears on the step, so the client knows what to fix before resubmitting.

## Notifications

Clients and participants are notified by email when:

- A step opens up for them again

- You reject one of their steps

- The flow is completed

- A step is waiting for them (reminders: up to 3 if the step has a deadline)

Clients who have your portal's mobile app also get a push notification for each of these.

To learn how to configure them, see [Notifications and reminders in Flows](https://support.hubflo.com/en/articles/15704493-notifications-and-reminders-in-flows.md).

## When you reassign a role or cancel a flow

If you reassign a role to someone else, the new person receives a new link and starts from the welcome screen. The previous person's link stops working. If they open it, they see "This link is no longer valid".
